Supply & Installation

Garage Door Types We Supply & Automate

Not sure which style suits your garage? We install and automate every door type — with full technical specifications and headroom requirements below.

Key rule: All automatic door types require a minimum of 2" (50mm) headroom between the ceiling and the top of the door at its highest position, within 10'6" (3.2m) from the frame — except pivot-action canopy doors, which need conversion first.

All Door Types & Headroom Requirements

Most Popular Choice

Horizontal Retractable Door with Tracks

The most popular choice for automation in Hertfordshire. The door swings up and retracts horizontally along tracks fixed to the garage ceiling, sitting neatly inside when fully open.

Available in any size in steel, glass fibre or timber. Works perfectly with Hormann Promatic and Supramatic automation systems.

Sectional garage door with horizontal and vertical tracks installed in Hertfordshire

Best for Modern Homes

Sectional Door with Horizontal & Vertical Tracks

Sectional doors rise vertically before tracking horizontally along the ceiling — meaning you can park right up to the door and open it even with a car on the driveway. Smooth, quiet and virtually draught-free.

Available in any size and fully automatable. A particularly popular choice for modern homes in Hertfordshire and North London.

Canopy type garage door with vertical tracks

Traditional Style

Canopy Type Door with Vertical Tracks

Balanced with torsion or tension springs, the canopy door is a classic up & over design with vertical tracks. Approximately one third of the door projects outward as a canopy when open.

Can be converted for automation with a supplementary pantograph arm kit — a cost-effective way to automate an existing door.

Wooden hinged garage door opening outward

Traditional Appeal

Wooden Hinged Door – Opening Out

Side-hinged doors provide a traditional, barn-style look that suits period properties across Hertfordshire. They open outward like conventional doors, making them easy to use without any lifting.

A supplementary hinge kit is required to automate side-hinged doors, but the result is a beautifully convenient automated door with all the charm of timber.

Canopy type garage door with pivot action, no tracks

Conversion Available

Canopy Type Door with Pivot Action (No Tracks)

The pivot-action canopy door operates without ceiling tracks, using a simple pivot mechanism. In its original pivot form it is not suitable for direct automation.

However, it can be converted to horizontal tracks to allow full automation — a popular upgrade we carry out regularly across Hertfordshire.
