Ring First. It Is Usually Quicker

Repairs and servicing are asked for more often than new installations these days, which is what happens after more than four decades of fitting doors. More often than not the person who answers the phone is Barry Jones, who runs the business, and he would rather sort your problem on the call than book a visit you do not need.

A remote that has stopped working, a door that will not close, a system that has gone dead after a power cut: a good many of these are fixed in a five minute conversation, and there is no charge for that call. If it does need a visit, you will be told so straight away, and what it is likely to involve.

It does not matter who fitted the door or what make it is. If it is a garage door, we will help.

Annual Servicing

What A Service Covers

A garage door is the biggest moving object in most homes and it is used several times a day. We advise a service once a year. A serviced door seldom needs repairing, and when it does the repair is usually a small one.

Springs and balance

Spring tension checked and adjusted so the door is balanced. An unbalanced door works the operator far harder than it should.

Moving parts

Hinges, rollers, pivots and cables inspected and lubricated. Worn rollers and frayed cables are replaced before they fail.

The operator

Force settings and safety reverse tested, the drive checked, limits confirmed, and the manual release tried so it works when you need it.

Remotes and controls

Handsets, wall buttons and keypads tested, batteries changed, and spare handsets paired so you are not caught out.

Frame, tracks and seals

Tracks aligned and fixings tightened. The frame and weather seals checked for rot, rust and daylight.

Honest report

You are told what was done, what is wearing, and what, if anything, is worth planning for. Nothing is sold that is not needed.

The Faults We See Most

Some of these are phone calls. Some are visits. All of them are things we have fixed many hundreds of times.

  • Dead, lost or new remote handsets
  • No power after a power cut
  • Opens but will not close
  • Broken springs and frayed cables
  • Jammed, dropped or off the tracks
  • Noisy, slow or stiff doors
  • Operator, belt, chain and receiver faults
  • Locks, handles, rollers, hinges and seals

If the door is stuck or a spring has gone, do not force it and do not keep running the operator. Ring us. A door under spring tension can hurt you.

What It Costs

Contact us for a price. That is not us hiding the number, it is that there is no single number to give. If we fitted your door, you will have been told the service price when it was installed. If you are new to us, a short conversation on the phone, or a look at the door, is enough to give you a firm figure for a service.

Repairs vary more than anything else we do. A fault on a door fitted last year can be a simple fix. A thirty year old door that has not been opened in months, made by a company that no longer exists, is a different job entirely. We would rather look, tell you exactly what it needs, and give you a price you can rely on than quote blind and get it wrong in either direction.

There is no charge for advice on the phone and no travel charge within 20 miles of Potters Bar.

Older And Obsolete Doors

We have been fitting garage doors since 1980, and we recognise the older operators and doors that most people no longer see. If your system is 20 or 30 years old and the maker has gone, or the parts are no longer made, we can usually tell you on the phone whether it can sensibly be repaired or whether the money is better put towards replacing it.

Very often the door itself is fine and only the operator is past saving. A new Hormann Promatic on your existing door is £360 plus VAT and £100 to fit, comes with two new handsets, and is quieter and safer than anything made twenty years ago. Old remotes on obsolete frequencies can often be replaced with a new receiver and handsets without changing the operator at all.
